I love this handstand so much but *damn* is exiting it hard and scary. For some reason, I have a hard time bending my knee on the crocheted leg, without losing the crochet altogether. (Yes this is actually being done over a resi pit, always do stuff safely kids, etc. etc.) #trapeze #dancetrapeze #aerial #circus #circusarts

Date: 2019-01-28 11:43 pm (UTC)tbf, 6 months ago I probably couldn’t’ve either! I mean the handstand part, maybe, yeah; exiting safely? Probs not. Also the inversion to get into it wouldn’t’ve looked that good. :p
I am definitely really, really happy I can do some of the more advanced stuff in aerial now, though. My body is slooowly catching up to all the things my former-gymnast!hindbrain is convinces I should be ahmed to do No Problem.

Date: 2019-01-29 03:12 am (UTC)Yeah, that's been my experience! It largely hasn’t been the memory at all that’s been an issue (except for the occasional weird things that are Do The Exact Opposite Of Everything Gymnastics Ever Drilled Into You, c'est la vie) — my problems have really all been strength-to-weight ratio and some oddball deficiencies in the shoulders that I’m not certain of their origin (but that I do suspect my excessive breast tissue of being at least an Aggravating Factor of as they are not something I dealt with when I WAS a gymnast).
Still, I’m slowly, steadily increasing that strength-to-weight ratio and seeing gains and improvements! And I’ve been kind entertained and flattered to learn -- literally half a lifetime after I left gymnastics! -- that my handstand line down on the floor is still Pretty Goddamn Good Actually. XD Muscle memory Learned Young is, in fact, a wonder, much like multiple languages Learned Young.

Date: 2019-01-29 12:20 am (UTC)Thanks! The leggings were a Christmas gift and they have POCKETS! (I don’t recall the brand atm, sadly.) The socks are tabi socks from Polar Feet (https://www.polarfeet.com/collections/tabi-socks) and I love them LOTS: tabi socks are more comfortable than regular socks for me in the first place, but tabi are especially great for aerial given that most of the foot’s grasping ability is in the big toe. And the thickness of their fleece is really good at protecting my delicate feetses’ skin from the trapeze ropes. :D
